From Carlton Johnson re 2 guitars

You owe it to yourself and your guitar to call Robin now! I’ve been playing guitar for over 30 years and have owned all the big named guitars, and have bought and sold them as finances and children and wives has allowed!

I’ve never had one set up professionally and was always of the opinion that ‘well, John Lee Hooker/ Leadbelly/John Henry Barbee etc. never did..’ And that if I was a better player I could make any guitar sing. What an ignorant fool I’ve been!

From contacting Robin you are beginning a journey. Not a commute, but that trip to the seaside as a child, and the treat to the senses as you crest the last hill and see the sea for the first time, unforgettable.

I hope this isn’t too flowery for the shredders out there, the point I’m making is that this genuine and talented luthier Robin will hand you back your guitar after working his magic, and as you strike the strings you can see the beach just coming into view ahead.

I picked mine up after a full set up, some electrical work that was required and a full fret dress, played it and chatted with Robin and was just stunned at the transformation.

The guitar is a Korean made Michael Kelly, think Schechter type /quality, mid-range, nice but not a big hitter.

However…As mentioned, I’ve had all the names before and this is now the most comfortable to play.

The technical ability/performance such as action, fret comfort, intonation and sheer joy to just pick an E6/9 on is something I’ve never experienced before.

Just for the hell of it yesterday I played a 6/9 chord all along the neck up to the 22nd fret, perfect sound no buzz, and just rang like a bell all the way. The man is a wizard!

Trying the guitar at Robins was just enlightening, but there’s more to come. I found that once at home with my amp you settle into your playing and let go a little more.

In the 2 days since collecting it I have had an inane grin as I pick it up, have rushed in from work to play it, got up earlier, donned earphones to play it before work. It’s like being 16 again with my 1st Fender copy (Tokai) and staying up till 2am playing the 3 Buddy Holly songs I knew.

To top the technical wizardry that is Robin, he is also one of the most genuine of gentleman I have met and incredibly passionate about the guitar, and importantly your guitar. You will not be disappointed, only enhanced.

The only problem I’ve found is that when I fluff some Chet Atkins licks I can no longer blame the guitar.

Damn you Robin!
